And yes, I think--if nothing else--that documentation and transparency was thinking different. Perhaps, it's unfair for Daisey to say it wasn't (or to even mention it).

That said, it's not like that documentation and transparency was--so far as I know--ever discussed publicly by Jobs or Apple (you know, in a hey everybody, look at what we're doing kind of way!).

Still, it's worthwhile to point out these practices are going on, that they did go on while Jobs was around, and that, for whatever reason, it's up to us/someone else to push the agenda further--from documentation to some kind of reconfiguration.

In the meantime, what Daisey said in another article--about buying second-hand items, holding out on updating every cycle--are small, but thoughtful things to do to reduce the amount of demand on the system. If enough people did that (which they won't) it might make a difference.

wow, this is good. i read the suicides story in wired a while back.. i don't suppose this guy wrote that? there is, usually, a limit to the amount of change that one person can do, and it is always just short of what people notice should have been possible for them to do. not saying that horrible labor practices are ok. we should be more aware of how our tech is made. but transparency and documentation of said practices, is, i believe, doing something a little differently.

There may be a whiff of pretension in the air from time to time, but it's overall a super charming, friendly place. Occasionally overrun with little brohawks, on account of it being a college town, but they tend to keep to certain territories.

I'd meant to be in Pittsburgh for a MLIS, but now I am not. I'll be applying for the same degree in Seattle next year, which is why my presence in Batville may be temporary.

Um. I think there are other places Craig Thompson (and such) might visit that do not have rabid bat issues. Granted, they may not have you, but, erm, actually, isn't it also very cold and pretentious there? I've heard it's pretentious. A wonderfully, cranky, recovering alcoholic man told me that. Huh, Jihyun's video and post about the same zoo is pretty solildly in the "sad about where they were camp." She came back pretty much horrified about the place, but then, she went pretty much knowing what she would see. (Though I think it can't be as bad as the Jeonju Zoo, which was so bad I had to write a song about it... and yes, an elephant without a trunk was a real thing, not a made-up thing, and very depressing at that.)

That fox is a fennec! It usually lives in the desert, and are occasionally kept by the Bedouin to nom the scorpions in their tents. For a while, if you searched "Korea" on Flickr, some 80% of the results were pictures of fennecs, so I think they are some kind of big deal. hey! i used to cry at the suffering of my toys, every once in a while, if something bad happened to them... in particular i remember this oddly-shaped thing with handles and wheels and a face and hair, and i called it ollie, and someone kicked ollie one day. and i cried for the browning, dying tree in some ill-advised children's special about the disposal of an old christmas tree. surely it was not about that, but that is how i remember it. and those things are not all traditionally 'alive'. life is full of stuff and life and death and then we come in and give it meaning and feelings and build up ethics and i think that is good. but i think it is also confusing and beautiful.

i like seeing places that you've been that i've been to as well. it makes me feel like we're sharing something. and i like seeing the places i didn't go. it makes me feel like i'm seeing more things i could have seen. and i liked finding out about the new album from the tallest man on earth. somehow that one slipped by me in the most recently ended year, and i'm glad to be listening to it in the new one.

The actual line from Cyrano, as spoken by Ragueneau, is...

It's spoken in the midst of a stream of complimentary exclamations towards Cyrano's handily defeating an opponent while composing a verse about his defeating his opponent.

So, in that sense, the definition of the word maybe like that of scrumtrilescent, which means...something so magnificent I had to make up a word to describe its magnificence.
